Let's be serious, shall we?
We don't need to apply moisturizer 10X a day. However, different people might need to reapply moisturizer more or less often, depending on their activity level, likelihood of developing skin cancer and their skin type.
Let's break it down in 3 minutes - or less. Simply look for a bolded name that sounds like you! If you want us to add in a new persona, simply respond in the comments.
John The Creator
UV Exposure - High | Family History of Skin Cancer - Moderate| Age - 35
John likely will want to apply his moisturizer with SPF every morning before leaving for work. He works outside most days, meaning he's going to reapply his SPF every 2-3 hours. During the summer, he should compliment his SPF routine with a hat, UPF shirt and sunglasses to protect all exposed areas as well. In addition to a daily application, John will want to visit his dermatologist at least once a year to ensure his skin remains healthy and that he's following his check for his #ABCD-Es.
Akhil The Builder
UV Exposure - Mod | Family History of Skin Cancer - Low | Age - 26
Akhil works at a startup in Cleveland. Most days he walks to work (15 minutes) in the morning and again in the evening. He started wearing SPF because he learned from his dermatologist that it helped with anti-aging and reducing the appearance of brown spots and skin damage. Akhil likely only applies The Daily once each morning, after he workouts & showers, but before he makes his morning shake. He knows that it's easier for him to use something everyday than it is if he only uses it once in a while. When he goes on long runs on the weekends, he uses a separate mineral, waterproof SPF alongside a sunshirt and hat. He tries to run in the morning to avoid peak sun hours, plus it's just stupidly hot.
Mark The Cruncher
UV Exposure - Low | Family History of Skin Cancer - Low | Age - 30
Mark stays inside most days behind crunching numbers for his firm. At first, he didn't apply The Daily more than 2x week, if that. Over the past two years, he started seeing more fine lines appear, which he was okay with. However, he knows that by the time he's 40, he'll want to continue looking and feeling his best. More recently, he signed up to The Daily calendar reminder on his phone, which he listens to the playlist some mornings when he needs an extra good boost. He wears The Daily, because he has crunched the numbers and knows that if he uses one simple product, he's protected against his computer's UV rays, razor burn and skin cancer as an added bonus. Plus, his girlfriend got it for him for their Christmakuh.
The goal is to stay protected and to stay healthy. With such a diverse population with different genetics and skin types, it is difficult to say exactly how much an individual needs to reapply, as everyone is different! Really, it depends on the extent to which you are exposed to the sun and any genetic factors associated with cancer you may have.
In conclusion, play it safe! if you're going to be in the sun a lot, it can't hurt to apply every 2-3 hours, especially if you're going to be moving around and giving yourself the chance to sweat it off. Every Damn Day.
